Madison, Wisconsin – Wednesday, August 21, 2013 –Fromagination Artisanal Cheeses and Perfect Companions, 12 South Carroll Street on the Capitol Square in Madison will be hosting a Fundraiser and Silent Auction on September 26, 2013 from 6 to 9 PM to benefit the LGBTQIA youth theater troupe, Proud Theater. The event is being held to not only raise awareness of Proud Theater, but to gather additional funds to allow the group to continue its expansion into underserved parts of Wisconsin. Funds will also go toward a matching grant challenge received from the Mukti Fund – an organization that monetarily assists LGBTQ youth and young adult theater organizations throughout the country.
The store is widely known for its quality cheese and companions, and will provide food and refreshments for the event. Entertainment will be provided by Proud Theater youth, past and present, and performance highlight videos will be shown throughout the store. There will also be an opportunity to meet the people behind Proud Theater, and hear some great area voices discuss the relevance and importance of the theater troupe.
Proud Theater is an award-winning, exciting and innovative youth theater program designed to foster self-expression and self-empowerment for Madison-area youth who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer/questioning (LGBTQ), or who are the children of LGBTQ parents, or who are allies of the LGBTQ community at large. The youth gather Wednesday nights throughout the school year at James Reeb Unitarian Universalist in Madison where they improvise, create, and perform theatrical pieces, poetry and music that reflect the realities of their young lives. They then share their work at performances throughout the year in the larger community – ending the year with a cumulative production. This year’s final performance will be hosted by Stage Q at the Bartell Theater in Madison and run May 29-30, 2014 at 7:30 PM, and May 31, 2:30PM and 7:30PM.
Proud Theater is a project of Art & Soul Innovations and enjoys generous support from The Mukti Fund and the PFund Foundation, as well as additional support from local businesses and theater organizations around the state. The organization has recently expanded into other parts of the state, including Wausau in 2011, and Milwaukee in April of 2013 and will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2014.
